The Thursday session ended with the third consecutive red candle, leaving the board another 80 to 91 points weaker. Cotton bookings from the week ending 1/21 were 322,713 RBs for 2020/21 delivery and 53,592 RBs for 2021/22. Old crop sales were up 10% on the week and 5% above the same week last year. MYTD old crop commitments are 12.479m RBs which is 89% of USDA’s forecast, compared to the 5-yr average of 77%. New crop commitments are at 939k RBs. USDA’s Daily Spot Quotations report showed 6,506 bales were sold on Thursday for an average price of 76.00 cents/lb. The Cotlook A index was 50 points lower on 1/27 to 88.35 cents/lb. USDA’s AWP for cotton is 66.7 cents/lb and will be updated after the close.
